I looked for a decent application to use my iPhone as a WiFi disk for ages. I tried a lot of these: all of these have some kind of problem… one doesn’t work with Linux, one another has only FTP, etc… But, now, I think I found one that I can recommend to others: Phone Drive. It has several interesting features but, mainly, it works!
Obviously you have to connect your computer and your iOS device to the same WiFi network, and then you can connect to the disk share in two ways:
- using a web browser connecting to the URL http://your-ios-device-ip
this is a very comfortable way to connect to the device and either to upload and to download files. Phone Drive has an elegant HTML5 web interface, you can create folders, upload files with drag’n’drop etc.
- using a FTP client connecting to ftp://your-ios-device-ip
this is a more traditional approach which is widely compatible, even if less elegant
But, I’ll repeat, the best point is that it works! Instantly, ever, flawlessly.
There are no limit on the files’ size, but the free version is limited to store only ten files; files number apart, it is identical to the complete version, which costs €0,79. You can take a ride on the free one and, if you like it or need it, purchase the complete one.
